China Fresh Importers, Distributors, Retailers Visit USA

Fresh Buyers at Blueberry Research Farm
China Fresh Market Access Support.  USHBC is getting ready for future fresh blueberry market access to China.  On June 9, 2018, we hosted a group of eight visitors from China to learn more about USA fresh blueberries.  The group included some of the largest fresh fruit importers, distributors and retailers.  The trade mission was led by  USDA-FAS Beijing.   When USHBC learned of the group visit which is part of an Emerging Markets Program (EMP), we immediately asked that they visit blueberries for a day as a part of their one week trade mission.  Although USA blueberries are not allowed at this time, it was a great opportunity to familiarize for the future.   The group included some of the leading online sellers of fruit, and grocery chain buyers.  Dr. Wei Yang of Oregon State University gave a educational visit to the North Willamette Research Farm in Aurora, Oregon. The group also visited a packing plant to see the system that will sometime soon will serve China.  Visitors were impressed with all -- especially the long production windows of the USA that fit well with the Chinese demand.  All of the visitors came away very supportive of our market access efforts.  We encouraged them all to encourage the Chinese government to allow USA fresh blueberries as quick as possible!

Thanks to the USDA-FAS Agricultural Trade office in Beijing for bringing such a great group to the USA.
